Or, if you prefer the Bob & Doug McKenzie version of The Twelve Days of Christmas, five golden toques. What is a toque, you may ask? Per Wikipedia:

In Canada, a toque or tuque (IPA /tuk/) is a knit winter hat, originally a French-Canadian woolen hat. This “fashion” originated when coureurs des bois kept their woollen nightcaps on for warmth during cold winter days. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary regards the use of toque for this hat to be assimilated from the etymologically unrelated French word tuque.

 I’m really tired. Woke myself up this morning coughing. I’d only had about 3 hours sleep, but now I’m wide awake even though I’m dragging.

The move is progressing. It looks like we’ll be moving to a small town down the highway from where we are now. We found an empty lot there that’s relatively cheap (compared to other lots in town, anyway) and they don’t have scads of stupid rules & regulations about putting a manufactured house (please don’t call them trailers, it drives me insane ) on the lot. The town where we live now makes you jump through a zillion hoops. The house we’re looking at is built better than most of the new houses around here, but the Powers That Be still have that “trailer trash” prejudice thing going on. Never mind the fact there are houses here in town that you couldn’t pay me to live in. Oh well. The town where we’re going only requires a $20 permit to put what we want on the lot. So we’ll take our property tax dollars to them.

Finished up Cross Bones last night. Very good book! Now I need to check out the older books. This one was the latest. And it’s really nothing like the series.

  1. I love those manufactured houses - my sister and I used to spend a day going from place to place touring the model homes. They are built just as good as some of the homes that are being built today! And they’re not trailers - although I’ve seen some doublewide trailers that look pretty good too!

  2. Eve, yeah, some of them these days are really amazing, aren’t they? And around here, a lot of them are built better than site built houses. :)

  5. Feel better soon!

I understand what you’re saying about the manufactured homes… we almost bought one, but found that despite the fact that they are not “trailers”, everyone sees them as such, and it’s really hard to find a place other than a trailer park that will let you put one in. Ugh. There were several that I really liked, but we were never able to find a decent place to put it.
