My horoscope from yesterday:

Conversation is short and sweet. Exaggerations are unnecessary today. You will have an adventure in the next 24 hours that will have to be made into a three-part movie to be believed or appreciated.

So… the question is, am I being kidnapped by redneck aliens? Getting sucked into the search for a mysterious priceless emerald? Looking for the Ark of the Covenant? Or is the New Madrid Fault Line gonna shake, rattle, and roll? What??? Enquiring minds—like mine!—want to know! Especially if somebody like Harrison Ford or Pierce Brosnan might be involved….

And more importantly, can it wait until we get all our furniture and such moved in? Please and thank you!

But on to the Ice Dancing Free Skate Program

It wasn’t nearly as dramatic and exciting as the previous night. But we still had some bizarre costume choices. Like there was any doubt about that.

The French team skated to Les Miserables and had costumes appropriate to that. Their program was very nice.

America’s Silverstein & O’Meara had a nice, sexy program.

America’s Gregory & Petukhov skated to Romeo & Juliet and were just lovely.

The Lithuanians skated to Phantom of the Opera and were damn good!

The soap opera Italians Fusar-Poli & Margaglio were still miffed with each other and not speaking. Heck, they weren’t even looking at each other when they got on the ice. They skated to Prince of Egypt which was… interesting. Ugly costumes, though. Shocking, I know!

The team from Israel skated to Bolero. Not a good choice in most people’s opinions. If you recall the 1984 Olympic Games, the marvelous British team of Torville & Dean skated to this music and were awarded perfect scores across the board. The Israeli team were okay, but they’re definitely not Torville & Dean.

The Ukrainian team had really weird costumes and their program was really boring.

The top Russian team skated to the way overdone Carmen but they were very good!

And then there were Belbin & Agosto. :whoo: They skated to a medley of flamenco music. They were awesome! And they won the silver medal!!!! Do you have any idea how monumental this is? We’ve only ever won one medal before this. And that was a bronze THIRTY years ago!!!

And now for some comments about the Men’s Cross Country Relay. Okay, not the race so much as the fact I had such a crush on Norway’s Vegard Ulvang during the 1994 Games in Lillehammer. *swoon*

Then there was the fact this year that the Austrian team was up half the night because they got raided by doping officials! :confused68: A banned coach had been reported in the area. But wait! That’s not the end of the story. When police tried to stop the coach’s car, he then supposedly tried to commit suicide by crashing his car through a police roadblock! As Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said, “Not even Hollywood could come up with a scenario like this.” LOL!

Italy won the event, by the way. And something odd I noticed/realized. The four man Italian cross country relay team have, so far, been the only ones I’ve seen from any country at any of the medal ceremonies that actually SANG their national anthem!!! Doesn’t anyone have any patriotism in their bones anymore? No matter what country they live in?

  2. Redneck aliens? :crazedjumping: Ohmygosh! That was too funny! You gotta put that line in one of your stories. Although, if you take into consideration where most aliens land, you might say they are rednecks.

  4. Hmmmm.
I noticed that a LOT of Summer Olympians sing along with The National Anthem. Gary something or other with the swim team was one. And the ladies swim people who won. (You can tell I really pay attention.)
And the Australian swimming hunk…Ian something?…he really got into it. I think we all just need to be full of pride for who we are representing. I mean really. How often do you get the chance?

  5. I loved Belbin and Agosto. They’re very talented, not to mention physically beautiful. I was stumped by the bronze-winning team. I thought they were forgettable — except for her pasties, of course.

You know, it’s sad, but I bet a lot of people don’t know the words to their national anthems. Maybe that’s why they don’t sing them.

  6. Eve, yeah, hard to get past Pierce, huh? Yum! Hmm. They should have chosen HIM to play Harry Langdon in The Da Vinci Code instead of Tom Hanks. Not that I have anything against Tom, but… he ain’t Pierce.

Silma, you never know where redneck aliens might turn up. LOL! I might just have to work some into a story sometime…

    Danica, it was!

Crystal, exactly! And now that you mention it I do remember some of the summer athletes singing. And I’ll admit I haven’t seen a lot of the medal ceremonies this time around since they seem to not be showing them. *grumble*

Trish, Yes!!! The bronze ice dancing team had the weirdest costumes! Though weird costumes seemed to be the theme with the skaters this year.
