Er, I mean Jeremy, Travis, and Travis. Plus Toby. Our Men’s Moguls team. Have you ever seen the Moguls events? They ski down this VERY bumpy portion of snow (the moguls), then fly off a ramp and do a fancy trick, more moguls, a second fancy trick, then moguls to the finish line. Anyway, the very dishy Jeremy Bloom was the gold medal favorite. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the best run. :( However, American Toby Dawson snagged a bronze. :whoo: The two Travises (Travisi?)? They didn’t make it either, alas.

To be honest, it wasn’t the best day/night for the U.S. yesterday in any medal event with the exception of Toby Dawson. At least with the events I saw.

In the Men’s Speed Skating Team Pursuit, the U.S. didn’t do well at all. So no equaling Eric Heiden’s five medals for Chad Hedrick. Maybe next time around!

The U.S. got shut out of Women’s Short Track Speed Skating, 500m, too.

Women’s Downhill, same song, different verse. However, the U.S. did have another great comeback kid in Lindsay Kidlow even if she didn’t medal. She took a really bad tumble on the training run three days ago. There was speculation she wouldn’t even race yesterday. But she got back on the horse, so to speak, and zipped right past the spot where she fell, slid, and went through the fence. Good going, Lindsay!

In the Men’s Short Track 1000m Team event, Apolo Ohno made up for his loss the other night by getting the U.S. into the finals which are later this week, I think.

I may not have time to report tomorrow, so I’ll give you fair warning. I’m hoping I’ll be able to sleep at the new house tomorrow, so it’s going to take a lot of work tomorrow. So we shall see…

Poor Bode. Two events thus far and he’s not medaled in either of them. One of the gates in the slalom portion of the Men’s Combined event yesterday went between his skis and he was disqualified! :duh: But the U.S. still won gold, thanks to the youngest member of the ski team, Ted Ligety. :whoo:

We also had the Men’s Short Program in figure skating. Evgeny Plushenko of Russia was awesome and pretty much blew everyone else out of the water. So he’s got a hefty lead going into the long program later this week. The U.S.’s Johny Weir is in second place. There were also lots of falls last night.

I’m less than my usual perky (or obnoxious, depending on your point-of-view ) self today due to lack of sleep. I got about 3 hours last night. I’d take a nap, but it would only keep me awake tonight, too.

We FINALLY have electricity and phones at the new house. The cable guy is supposed to do his thing tomorrow. Yay! We may get moved yet!

So to speak. :) Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!!!

Now it’s time for Tori’s Olympic Games Report! (Like I was actually there, or something.) Last night’s show was quite exciting!

Pairs Figure Skating was a night of amazing comebacks! First, the Chinese team of Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao returned to competition for the first time since Zhao had surgery for a torn Achilles tendon. That didn’t stop them from going on to win the bronze medal! :cheer:
Then, there was the Chinese team of Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang. Their first big trick was a never-before performed throw quadruple salchow. Unfortunately, Hao didn’t land cleanly. One leg went one way, and the knee of her other leg slammed into the ice. She was obviously hurt. Dan helped her to the sidelines, but after only a few minutes, they continued their program. Amazingly, to the wild cheers of the crowd, :whoo: they finished the rest of their program cleanly, and got a standing ovation. Oh, and they managed to snag the silver medal while they were at it.
Lastly, the Russian team of Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin came back from Tatiana’s disastrous fall 16 months ago when Maxim dropped her head-first on the ice during a lift. They took home the gold. And in the best romantic tradition, when they’d completed their program, Maxim bent to one knee and kissed Tatiana’s hand. Awww. :)
In Women’s Snowboarding Halfpipe, the U.S. took home gold (Hannah Teter) and silver (Gretchen Bleiler). Rock on, ladies! :rocker:
The U.S. also won a gold medal in Men’s 500m Speed Skating thanks to Joey Cheek.

Now, a word about some of the commercials I’ve been seeing lately. One that makes me giggle is where the Chevy Suburban is being inspected by a family of prairie dogs. Every time the back hatch door raises up with the little rodent hanging onto the license plate holder I get giggly. He’s so cute!

On the other side of the coin… is anyone besides me totally creeped out by the new Volkswagen commercials??? With that evil-looking thing in the car making people drive fast? It just creeps me out in the worst way!!!
