I watched a fun movie last night on the Hallmark Channel. The Curse of King Tut’s Tomb. While it was fun, I think any resemblance to historical fact was purely accidental.
For instance, this took place before Howard Carter’s discovery of the tomb in 1922, but the female lead’s wardrobe was SO not period, except once she wore a dress that sort of vaguely looked like it came from the 1920s, but more the late ’20s than the early. Too funny. And the vehicles didn’t much look like they came from the early ’20s either. In fact, the car the villain drove looked rather like a 1930s-era Packard. And then there were the demons, the villainous secret society who wanted to dominate the world, and the brief resurrection of ol’ Tut himself (he really was a god). But, no matter. It was still fun. And it had Casper Van Dien in it who isn’t uneasy on the eyes.
On another Egyptian note, here’s a link to a story on MSNBC:
Mysteries still surround Egyptian chamber
Is a recently discovered chamber in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings a tomb, a supply room or something in between? Archaeologists are still asking themselves what they’ve found.
Today’s horoscope:
“It could be that you are feeling a bit of pressure today to start or create something that you aren’t quite ready for, (A new story, perhaps?) There is hesitation on your part that indicates you should take it slowly and learn more of the facts before you jump headfirst into the pot of boiling water. (Or maybe I’m going to run into a pack of cannibals…) Position yourself in such a way that allows you to take control of the situation instead of becoming a victim of it. (Oh, now, I like the sound of that! :whip:)“
My neighbor’s aunt dated Robert Carter when she was young. He gave her a small piece from the tomb. She didn’t seem to be cursed, she lived until she was about…hmmm…98.

Sorry, I meant Howard Carter. Not sure why I wrote Robert.

Stay AWAY from the pot of boiling water! That CANNOT be healthy in any way, shape, or form.
I don’t have the Hallmark Channel. But if I did, I would take out stock in Kleenex. They make me cry.

Sounds like an interesting movie - and you’re right, Casper is not bad for the eye-sight.

I want you to know that you’ve had me singing that monotonous Steve Martin song - “King Tut” over and over again.

Eve, I’ve been singing King Tut for days, too!
Tori, I watched the movie, too. My dh and ds made horrible fun of me and kept threatening to put in The Mummy, if I wanted to watch a good movie. It actually wasn’t very good - no cause and effect at all. Like, how did Casper’s character know the female lead had been afflicted? And how did he know the emerald tablet had been stolen? And the minor female part - they didn’t even TRY to put her in period clothing. She ran around in slacks almost the whole time. (And whatever happened to her, anyway??)

Rene - That’s very cool! Personally, I think the whole curse thing was a bunch of baloney. For all the people who died near the time the tomb was opened there were dozens (at least) who lived for years beyond then.
Crystal - Yeah, Hallmark does show an awful lot of sad movies. I don’t watch those. *g*
Eve - It was silly fun.
LOL re the Steve Martin song!
Marty - That song’s contagious!
Mary - Oh yeah, it had more holes than Krispy Kreme donuts.
I think we could have made it a LOT better!
