All the talk this weekend over the death of Aaron Spelling has me (and other people) thinking about the legacy of television shows he left behind. And the crushes we had growing up watching his shows. :) So I’m going to bore you with my list of Hotties From the Old Days. In no particular order:

Dirk Benedict (The original Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica back in the ’70s. Before the character got a sex change a couple of years ago.)
John Schneider (Love, love, LOVED him as Bo Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard. And he still had that certain sexy something as Jonathan Kent—Clark Kent’s, aka Superman, dad—on Smallville.)
Rex Smith (Best known as Frederick in the movie The Pirates of Penzance. Now he’s a realtor in Long Beach, California. Still looks pretty darn hot, too!)
Parker Stevenson (Frank Hardy of the Hardy Boys. Yum. Need I say more? Of course, then he turned around and married Kirstie Alley which annoyed me to no end. And then they had the nerve to buy silent film star Harold Lloyd’s house! It should have been me!!! :hissyfit: )
Bay City Rollers (Loved their song Saturday Night. They were from Scotland and wore an abundance of plaid. In the most hideous—in retrospect—outfits known to man. They should have stuck with kilts. ;))
Robert Wagner (How could I not love him as Jonathan Hart? He was sexy, he was rich, he was funny.)
Dack Rambo (He guest starred on a lot of shows. Sadly, he died in 1994 from AIDS. :()
Jon-Erik Hexum (He played a hunky time traveler in Voyagers, then a cover model/secret agent in Cover Up. And he died way too young and way too tragically while joking around with a gun loaded with blanks. Even blanks can be deadly when fired too closely to one’s head. I think his death bothered me more than any celebrity’s before or since. I guess because it was so stupid and senseless.)
Leigh McCloskey (Guest starred in tons of shows. And I just discovered he was Kelsey Grammer’s roommate at Julliard. Whattayaknow? :D)
John Lansing (Played Doc in the Saturday morning kids’ show The Kids from CAPER. He was SOOOO hot!!! He’s been in very little else since then which is a shame. Looks like he’s now working behind the scenes. *sigh*)
Rick Springfield (Singer, actor. Played Noah Drake on General Hospital where he is once again. Still sexy at 57! :confused68:)
Michael Gray (I first saw him on the Brian Keith Show, then later he played Billy Batson on Shazam!—another kids’ show. Now owns a florist shop with his wife in Los Angeles.)

On the horoscope front:

“Magical events may occur today in the most unlikely places. (Cool! Will I get transported to another world? Preferably one where they can cure all my ailments?) Perhaps you are expecting to see someone in a certain environment. (Well, no. Can’t say I am.) Even if you do not see them there, you will end up meeting them at a special event in an entirely different place. Let your goal be your main focus, and let the details of the journey fall into place however they will. (Okay… whatever THAT means.)

“Some powerful feelings can’t be ignored. Just keep in mind that your emotions are part of a bigger picture. You have the power to decide how, where and when you want to be involved. Listen to your gut. (Right. I can’t think of a single snarky thing to say here. LOL!)

Writing. :typing: A page and a half last night. My heroine has three half-brothers who don’t believe her when she tells them her boss’s ex-wife was killed by a werewolf. Just because she’s not a werewolf, and they are, they think they know better. She’s pretty pissed at them at the moment.

Forgot to mention this dreadful—but in a good way —movie I watched last night on the Sci Fi Channel. Android Apocalypse starred Joseph (formerly Joey) Lawrence and Scott Bairstow (it was nice seeing him). Anyway, this took place far in the future, but I was  over the fact that EVERYBODY drove brand spanking new Jeeps. Like you’d get off the car lot right now. LOL!

  1. OMG!
John-Erik Hexum. Wow. What a flashback. The most amazing eyes. And that whole Bonnie Tyler “Holding Our For a Hero” song?
Yep. I’ll admit it. The guy covered my walls. And his death certainly qualifies as a tragedy.
    *sigh*
And I didn’t even know Dack Rambo died. I am obviously slipping on the Hollywood news thing.
    Grins*

  2. Dirk Benedict … *sigh* … would you believe I still have my Tiger Beat and Teen Beat magazines from the real (– sorry, I don’t like the new version AT ALL) Battlestar Galactic days!?! :confused68:

And Parker Stevenson… Yum. All my friends liked Sean Cassidy, but I clearly had better taste.

Jon-Erik… yeah, I remember when he died. I also remember they tried to keep that show in the air afterward, but it flopped.

I had no idea that Dack Rambo died. Now I’m mourning in retrospect.

And…Rick Springfield was my first concert when I was 16 y.o. I have all of his records (including his old, old stuff like “Beginnings” and “Comic Book Heroes”). I even watched GH again recently for a while just to see him, but I can’t get over the really stupid storylines, so I quit.

I have to admit to also being a Duran Duran (LOVED John Taylor) and Wham! fan. Got those Tiger Beat’s, too.

    Huh. Maybe I’m a bit of a pack rat… ya think?:useyourhead:

And all that is probably WAY more than you wanted to know. Hope you had a great weekend!

  3. Quite a list there, girlfriend. I saw that Rex Smith was a realtor, quite successful I believe and has the whole family thing going. Interesting about the Shazam! guy, always wondered about him.

  4. I was a Richard Hatch (Apollo) groupie, and Shaun Cassidy was the one on my walls.

I remember when Jon-Erik died - that was so awful, no one could believe it. Even my mom was so upset. He had such a lovely voice, too.

  5. Wow, you’ve reminded me of some of the guys I thought were hot when I was in high school.

Rick Springfield has actually had a resurgence in his career. I understand he’s touring again after having a fairly long run in one of Las Vegas’ top shows EFX.

  6. Crystal - I love that song! I downloaded it from iTunes awhile back. Must listen to it… I hadn’t realized Dack Rambo had died either until I went googling all these guys yesterday. Very sad. :(

Marianne - Wow! My Tiger Beats and Teen Beats got lost long long ago. Wish I still had them. I bet they’d be fun to look through! I loved Duran Duran too! Though I was always bitching to my roommate that Nick Rhodes had a better wardrobe than I did. (And, no, I didn’t think it was too much information! How else do I learn about people? :))

Rene - Yeah, his life seems to be doing quite well. I read, too, that he’s doing some theater work again. Very cool!

Mary - I liked Shaun well enough, I just liked Parker better. :)

Mandy - It’s fun seeing Rick Springfield again, even though his storyline on General Hospital sucks. He’s still hot. :)

  7. You take my breath away which is about all I can remember of the Rex Smith song from the TV movie (I can’t remember the title). Yeah, he was a good one too. And Parker Stevenson. And Dirk Benedict - the whole Starbuck is a woman thing is what has kept me from watching the new one. Nope, not gonna do it - Starbuck is a man. Now, having Boomer as a woman doesn’t bother me. Dack Rambo was good looking, and Jon-Erik was tragic. The whole Bonnie Tyler opening credits was great. That Lansing name sounds familiar - but not the show. I’ll have to google him. And I like Leigh McClosky too - Dallas, that movie with Jan from the Brady Bunch. I like your list - brought back a lot of memories. Oh, and Rick Springfield was Apollo’s brother in the pilot for Battlestar, I’d forgotten that.
