Über-producer Aaron Spelling passed away yesterday at the age of 83. All in all, he produced an amazing 212 television shows and movies. Just some of his older shows I watched:
Dynasty (Or Lifestyles of the Rich and Dysfunctional.)
Hart to Hart (My personal favorite. I wanted to BE Jennifer Hart.)
Vega$ (Loved Dan Tanna, aka Robert Urich—another person taken from us too soon.)
Fantasy Island (First time I saw this show, I thought Roarke was some psycopath trying to kill people. LOL!)
The Love Boat (If I ever go on a cruise, I want this bunch as my crew!)
Charlie’s Angels (Who couldn’t love strong, kick-ass heroines? :))
Starsky & Hutch (I wanted Starsky’s car and Hutch’s house in Venice.)
S.W.A.T. (So many hunky men in uniform. Yum!)
On the music front, it’s Saturday, so it’s Celtic Music day. I don’t think anyone will ever top the Celtic Rap this show played once, but just now they had a band called Salsa Celtica on. Yes, Spanish/Celtic mix. Very… strange, but I liked it (which is more than I could say for the Celtic/Rap mix).
There’s an interesting article on naming characters by Jeffrey Thomas over on Storytellers Unplugged. Check it out!
Speaking of writing, I wrote almost THREE pages last night!!!
And other stuff. Actually, I don’t mind about losing my mind so much. But I’ve been turning my bedroom upside down for days searching for notes I made on a legal pad for a story idea I had before we moved. I thought I’d seen it since we got here, but I’m beginning to have my doubts. But if it’s not in here, where the heck IS it??? Then again, I’ve still got missing books, too, so it’s probably with them out in the storage building (which is a whole other annoyance right now).
Writing. Okay, I wrote about a page and a half on something sort of new. Actually, it’s a continuation of something I started a few weeks ago, but didn’t like where it was going. So I thought about it and tweaked it a bit and at the moment I like where it’s going better. So we shall see. It’s set in Austin, Texas and stars our heroine who’s a private investigator. Her boss’s ex-wife has just been murdered. And Our Heroine is worried someone from her half-brother’s side of the family might be responsible. His were-creature side of the family.
Today’s horoscopes:
“Relatives or neighbors may come to you today asking for favors. Some may know exactly what buttons to push in order to get you to do what they want! (Hey! Leave my damn buttons alone.) Don’t be sucked into guilt or other negative emotions. Help others out if you wish, but recognize that you’re doing it because you want to and not because you feel you have to. (So there!) You might even learn something about yourself in the process! (Oh, a LEARNING experience. I hate those! :D)”
“A pleasant journey with friends could be relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Your chance to have a stimulating conversation is upon you; get a hold of people who have ideas you can dig into. (So, are these the button-pushing friends? LOL!)”
“Ignore all the chatter around you. Everyone’s dissatisfied, and no matter what you do, you can’t make them feel better, so why try? (Well, then, I’ll just do things to suit myself. ;)) You need to be true to yourself, not to what others expect. Stay on course.”
Could I have possibly have had three more contradictory horoscopes for one day?
Ack! Fell into that black hole again yesterday. I hate when that happens. Anyway…
In TV news, according to TV Guide, Fox is going to be starting their new fall season in AUGUST this year! Just like the good old days.
While rewatching Lost last night I noticed something that just proves you should watch every bloody second of this show because it’ll turn out to mean something later. Remember the episode when Sun realized she’d lost her wedding ring while burying the bottle from the raft in the episode before? Well, while she was burying it I kept a close eye on her hands. Sure enough, when she put the bottle in the hole, the ring was on her hand. When she raised her hands back up, the ring was gone!
On the writing front
I only wrote about half a page last night. And about a page and a half the night before (since I didn’t report in yesterday). And now I seem to have ground to a halt. I have absolutely no clue what happens next.
At the risk of being smacked
I’m thinking it might be time to hop to another project while this one percolates…
There’s a link to a cool article in the Austin American-Statesman about romance/chick lit author Julie Kenner from her blog.
Today’s horoscopes:
“Social events and group activities are on the agenda today. You may be introduced to someone who could prove to be helpful to your career. (I think that’s highly unlikely around here.) A letter containing good news could come from a friend or partner. (Does the offer of a Visa card count?) Any new moneymaking enterprises begun at this time are likely to succeed, as long as you stay with it and continue to face it in a businesslike manner. (Writing?)”
“You’ll reach your destination in plenty of time, even if you go the scenic route. (I LOVE taking the scenic route!) What’s wrong with taking your foot off the gas pedal, anyway? (Not a darned thing!) The only sense of urgency here is your own. Enjoy the ride. (’Kay, I think I will. :))”
And to end on a fun note, my uncle’s got two horses racing this weekend. One quarter horse and his thoroughbred.
