Over on her blog today, Marianne is talking about why she became a writer. Since I’m a shameless blog topic thief
I thought I’d do the same.
I used to make up stories in my head when I was a kid, but it never once occurred to me write them down. Wish I had! Some of them were quite entertaining. But, c’est la vie! Time passed and in the early ’90s I started watching the Duncan Regher version of Zorro on the Family Channel.
Now, I loved this show, but there were times when the writing was truly dreadful. I jokingly commented to Mandy :waving: one day, “I think I can write that badly.” She more or less dared me to try. Turns out I was wrong.
I couldn’t write as badly as some of those shows were. LOL!
Okay, maybe the mechanics needed work, but my storylines and dialogue were tons better, in my not-so-humble opinion. I eventually started filing the serial numbers off the characters and turning them into something more original. And, voila! Bob’s Your Uncle! (Just don’t tell anybody that I now want to dig those characters out of the moth balls and play with them…
)
But, no. I’ll be good and keep playing with my shapeshifter and the chick he has to protect.
Peculiar news from Hollywood today.
- Keith Richards to appear in next ‘Pirates’
Rolling Stones guitarist to play Capt. Jack Sparrow’s father in third film
I guess he got over falling on his head a few months back.
On the horoscope front:
“Is there someone persecuting you? (*sigh* Here we go again with that back-stabbing friend prediction!) Is there a situation that feels unbearably oppressive? (You mean aside from the heat and humidity?
) Today, you won’t have any trouble identifying the source of your problems. (Must happen later…) And the great news is, that’s the first step towards obtaining release from them. (:whoo:) But you can’t expect it to be easy. (Naturally.
) The day ahead may feel somewhat overwhelming.”
“You are being asked for a yes or a no. While making a difficult decision about your future is tough to do in a day, luck will be on your side if you make the more radical choice. Big changes favor your long-term development. (Ooo! That sounds promising! And I get to be radical, too!
)”
“Getting caught up in explanations will just leave you looking like a fool. (In other words, keep quiet and look mysterious…) Cut your losses and acknowledge your part in the proceedings—then indicate that you’re ready to move on. People will follow your lead. (:flying: Head ‘em up, move ‘em out!)”

And I eagerly look forward to your first completed story.

Mandy, you and me both!
And you still have a spot in my first dedication should I actually sell.

I had heard that Johnny based his Capt. Jack on Keith. Makes sense the two would pair. Good grief! Can you imagine?

I hope they have subtitles for Keith.

I do think some of the best writing I have “seen” has been Deadwood, fantastic writing.

There’s also the other thing…
you write because you HAVE to. It’s an urgency to get those words out and communicate. I’ve seen it here.

Bailey, looking mysterious is good for writers, I think.
AWTM, I think you’d write awesome Erma Bombeck style books with your tales of Dash & Pink Ninja!
RSM, well, yeah. I can’t NOT write. I’ve always got somebody in my head demanding my attention. (They’re SO bossy!) And doesn’t THAT sound more than a little psychotic?
