Since there wasn’t anything on last nigth, I watched a couple of movies. First up, The Casino Murder Case. This was made in 1935. The detective is suave, New Yorker Philo Vance. My main complaint with the movie was with the casting. Vance was played by Hungarian-born actor Paul Lukas. The problem is, he sounded Hungarian, not cosmopolitan New Yorker. It kept drawing me out of the story.

Then I watched the 1988 movie Sunset. This was more fun, though I had to wonder about some of the editing. It was very choppy. Anyway, the basic premise is western film star Tom Mix and former marshall Wyatt Earp team up to solve a murder in 1929 Hollywood. Bruce Willis played Mix and James Garner played Earp. The two apparently really were friends in real life. Tom Mix was a pallbearer at Wyatt Earp’s funeral, at any rate.

Tonight is a new episode of Burn Notice. :whoo:

Here’s a bit of interesting news:

Rocker from Queen turns into astrophysicist
Brian May is completing his doctorate in astrophysics, more than 30 years after he abandoned his studies to form the rock group Queen.

I wrote about 3/4 of a page last night. I really, seriously need a break from this book. The more I work on it, the more I realize what a mess it is. As much as I love the characters, I think maybe this should be a part-time/when-I’m-not-working-on-something-else book. *sigh* And it isn’t as if I don’t have plenty of other ideas.

Reading: Thursday Next: First Among Sequels by Jasper Fforde is the latest of my reading material. I just love Fforde’s books! The man is a genius.

  2. I don’t mix up my reading very often. But I find myself lately reaching for the classics. And some poetry. None of the popular fiction nowadays floats my boat.
I must go forth and try something new on.

  3. Yanno, I’ve tried and tried to get into Jasper Fforde’s books, and I just can’t. I think there’s something seriously wrong with me, because everyone I know really likes his stuff. I must be missing that particular gene.

    *sigh*

  4. Sometimes when I write reports, I get jammed, so I put it off for a day to clear my head and then start back up again.
