I was thisclose to blowing a gasket last night while watching the news. Every damn story about Heath Ledger kept harping on the fact he had six prescription drugs in his apartment. And making it sound like the most horrible thing in the world. Never mind that they were LEGAL prescription drugs prescribed by his doctor!!! Well, damn. I guess I’d best watch out. I take seven. And none of the news idiots actually KNOW anything. It’s all speculation. So why don’t they just shut the hell up (and quit tormenting the poor man’s family)?!
Ahem. Now that I’ve got that out of my system…
The Hollywood Blog has a great article on the Knickerbocker Hotel which was built in 1925 in Hollywood. I’m sure my characters visit there now and then. Or will. I need to find out just when it opened and figure out just when my book is set. I know it’s set in 1925, but I’ve never figured out just when in 1925.
Tonight, NBC claims we’re getting two new episodes of Chuck. That’ll be fun! Except for The Apprentice being on in between them. Guess I’ll watch something recorded during that time slot.
Read through Chapter 3 last night and made some notes.
Reading: I ended up not reading Dating is Murder because about the time I read chapter 2, I remembered who the killer was. So I decided on Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers. I know who the killer is in that one, too, but with the Lord Peter Wimsey books, it’s more about the journey than the destination. I think maybe I need to focus on the masters (mistresses?) like Sayers and Agatha Christie and try to learn more from them.
I keep thinking that these news agencies are tormenting the poor family with all this nonsense. Most people have prescription drugs in their home for heaven’s sake! I take 3 a day, not counting the ibuprofen I take when I am SORE (like today *g*).
As for books, don’t you hate it when you start to read a book you’ve read before and are eager to immerse yourself in the story and you keep thinking “I remember that” or “I know who it is”. It just manages to spoil the book for me.
The Knickerbocker sounds like an interesting Hotel. Have fun with the research for that one.
Have a nice day!

New Chuck! Really! Guess they’re moving it from Monday night.

On reading: You might also try Ngaio Marsh’s “A Man Lay Dead” (1934).

I’m just shutting out everything Heath until things are conclusive. Sheesh… his poor family.

Brandy, yeah, I wasn’t even counting all the vitamins and stuff I have to take!
Mandy, so NBC claims! I don’t get why they’re not showing them back to back, though.
Bill, oh, thanks! I’ve read some of her books years ago and had forgotten about her.
Marianne, I’m trying to do the same but it’s a lot easier said than done.

I have to think that it’s slow news this week for the Heath death to be such big news. And so much speculation about his death being called news.
And is it just me, or is TV getting really boring these days??

Were you able to pick up your new shoes?
It’s worse here, even the small neighborhood and free papers are covering Heath as well as every channel here. It’s like you can’t escape it.
Darn, I just came home so I missed CHuck. Will catch the second episode.

Bummer, I missed Chuck! Was it a new one and was it any good?

I agree about the news concerning Heath’s death. And I’m furious at the wasted time before calling 911 from everyone involved.

The news stories about Heath Ledger have been bugging me, too. They don’t know anything but they keep going on about it anyway, and there was nothing illegal found in his apartment.

I’m not quite sure why Heath Ledger’s death is so important. How many people died the same day as a result of drunk driving? How many children died because of abuse? How many people died because an extremist strapped a bomb to his chest? Our fascination with celebrity death is bizarre. Of course this comment comes from the person who tivos “Celebrity Rehab.”
