Last night on the figure skating we got a look at a few of the ice dancers. One team whose names escape me (I’m so out of touch on skaters these days) skated to the music from Singin’ in the Rain. They weren’t as good technically as some of the other teams but they just made me so happy.
Skating spoilers ahead!
Then the rest of the time was spent covering the ladies. My heart just broke for Kimmie Meisner. :( She was the reigning U. S. champ, but she had a terrible night last night. She fell three times during her performance. What boggles my mind is how she was the “old woman” of the group at age 18! The girls who came in first and second aren’t even old enough to compete at the World Championships later this year!
And Dick Button said something last night that I think may be my new favorite phrase. He was talking about not caring which of the girls won and said, “I don’t give a rusty hoot”. Well, I’ve always heard “Not giving a hoot”, but somehow adding that word “rusty” in there makes it so much more entertaining. *g*
Tonight is the Men’s final. Amazingly, there are actually a couple of male skaters competing that I’ve seen before!
Johnny Weir (I’m always typing and/or calling him Johnny Weird. *g*) and Evan Lysacek. Also on tonight is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Masterpiece Theatre which is doing Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park.
Reading: Tonight I’ll be starting Unnatural Death by Dorothy L. Sayers.
Did you notice that Extreme Makover: HE is a 2 hour show?
We used to watch all the ice skating shows because the altheticism and sheer poetry in motion ON ICE was beautiful to watch, but for years now we haven’t watched.
Enjoy your book and tv tonight! I hope you have a wonderful day!
