On this date in 1940 Gone With the Wind won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture. But the most ground-breaking award was Hattie McDaniel’s win for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Mammy. Miss McDaniel was the first African-American actor to win an Oscar.

Did you all see the story in the news yesterday about Prince Harry’s stint in Afghanistan? He’d been on the front line over there about three months. The British press knew he was there, but agreed to keep it quiet because they knew he’d be a major target for the Taliban/al Queda. But what do the American press do the minute they find out about it? They blab to the whole freakin’ world. So irresponsible. This is why I have so little respect for the American press these days. They don’t give a flying flip about putting people in worse danger than they’re already in. His Highness is being withdrawn from Afghanistan immediately now.

On a different, if not happier, note. I could not get to sleep last night. And ended up sleeping until noon. I hate when I don’t wake up until 10 or 10:30. Noon is just outside the pale! Then again, I was still wide awake at 5:30 this morning, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised I slept so late.

Very interesting Lost last night. A bit confusing, too, but I really enjoyed it.

Tonight, we have lots of reruns and a new episode of Stargate: Atlantis. So I’ll be watching recorded stuff before that.

Keyed in a couple of pages yesterday on the 1920s murder mystery which, alas, only added two pages to the manuscript. Oh well.

Reading: The Wizardry Cursed by Rick Cook. More magical computer programming hijinks! :D

Not a lot going on around here today. I guess that’s probably a good thing. :) It’s slightly overcast but not really cold. Our predicted high is 51 with rain. Rumor has it it’ll be 66 on Sunday. We shall see.

Tonight’s TV includes Lost, Survivor: Backstabbers, and Eli Stone. There’s also a couple of shows on History International about folks in early Hollywood I’m going to record.

Keyed in more stuff last night and added five pages to the manuscript.

Reading: Wizardry Compiled by Rick Cook. In this book, a bunch of other programmers are recruited from our world to help compile “magic computer software” in the other world. It’s fun! :)
