May

I found this hard to believe, so I did some research and it appears it’s true. The first regularly scheduled television programs were begun on this date in 1928 :confused68: in Schenectady, NY.

A farm report/weather program was transmitted on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. by General Electric.

How the times have changed!

Also on this date, in 1927 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded. And the winner is…! (Why did they stop using that? I find “And the Oscar goes to…” a lot more boring.)

  3. Wow, I guess there will be a big deal in 10 years when it’s the 100th anniversary!

  4. Tracy, that was a wee bit before your time, however. *g*

Dru, the very first Oscar went to Emil Jannings who won for Best Actor. Only he’d gone home to Germany so wasn’t at the awards ceremony. Best Picture was Wings and Best Actress was Janet Gaynor.

Suzanne, no doubt! Unless those pesky Mayans were right and the world ends in 2012.

  5. I think they changed the wording so everyone (the nominees) feels like a winner.

It’s what they’ve done with kids’ activities, too. Really silly if you ask me. A person has to learn how to deal with disappointment.
