I could have done this as a “dateline” report, but since I don’t really have anything to say this morning, I thought I’d put this here.

On this date in 1903, the first cross-country trip in an automobile was completed. Someone drove a Packard from San Francisco to New York in 52 days. I’d love to know what route they took since there wasn’t a transcontinental highway until 1913!

Still watching the ’80s music videos. Earlier, a solo video by Freddie Mercury of Queen was on. He had such an amazing voice and died way too soon.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those in Gustav’s path. Stay safe, people.

Not a lot going on here. My new modem didn’t arrive on Friday, so I’m still having to borrow the neighbor’s wifi. But I have a new router that a kindly writer friend sent me. It looks a lot better than the one I had before. :)

Tonight on TV, we have another episode of Inspector Lynley Mysteries, but I’m not sure if it’s a new episode or a repeat. It’s coming up as a repeat, but I’m not sure if that’s right.

Reading: Finished up Secret of the Mansion but my copy of the next book in the series is also kind of beat-up. So now I’m reading Linda Craig and the Palomino Mystery by Ann Sheldon. Not that Ann Sheldon was a real person. The series was ghost written by at least one of the daughters, and possibly both, of Edward Stratemeyer. Which is an essay for another day because I could talk at great length about the Stratemeyer Syndicate. :headspin:

Bed of Roses. Anybody remember that song by The Statler Brothers? I don’t know about anyone else, but I always thought it sounded extremely uncomfortable. But my new bed is great! I couldn’t feel the springs poking me. Heaven! I still didn’t sleep that well, but I don’t think that was the bed’s fault. I do feel a bit guilty about putting those sheep out of work again, though. :headspin:

More archaeology news:

    Ancient gold treasure puzzles archaeologists
A priceless gold wreath has been unearthed in an ancient city in northern Greece, buried with human bones in a large copper vase that workers initially took for a land mine.

Pretty cool, huh? [»]

So there’s a show I watch on HGTV called Design on a Dime. But why is it called that when their budget is $1000? :anyone:
