In TV news, William Petersen’s replacement on CSI has been announced. None other than Laurence Fishburne!
And this boggles my mind. Jennifer Lopez is training for a triathlon and she can’t understand why Michael Phelps is getting all this attention. Uh, maybe because he’s 100 times more of an athlete than you’ll ever be, you silly woman? Ego, much? Geez.
I’ve never been a fan of hers and this just reinforces my opinion.
And now for today’s Olympic report:
Women’s discus: The gold went to Stephanie Brown-Trafton. She was the first American to win this event since 1932!
Women’s beach volleyball semifinals: Shockingly, Kerri Walsh didn’t have ANY of the kinesiology tape on her shoulder! Anyway, they won, so she and Misty May’s next stop will be the gold medal round.
Women’s trampoline final: I still say it’s the most dangerous summer event! Yikes! Or maybe I just feel that way because I’ve seen all those trampoline mishaps on America’s Funniest Home Videos (not that I think those are funny, they make me cringe). Gold went to China’s He Wenna, silver to Karen Cockburn of Canada, and bronze to Ekaterina Khilko of Uzbekistan.
Men’s steel rings: I was cracking up when talking about one part of this one guy’s performance, Tim Daggett said, “The human body isn’t meant to do that move!” My thought was “Most people’s bodies won’t do any of those moves!”
China’s Chen Yibing got gold, Yang Wei got silver and Oleksandr Vorobiov from Ukraine got bronze.
Women’s pole vaulting: Gold went to Russia’s Yelina Isinbayeva, the U.S.’s Jenn Stuczynski (but what was up with her coach? He was, as the announcers said, almost accusatory about her getting silver. Dude, chill out! She’s only been at this four years, cut the girl some slack!) got the silver, and bronze went to Russia’s Svetlana Feofanova.
Men’s 400m hurdles final: Awesome! It was a U.S. sweep!!! Angelo Taylor got gold, Kerron Clement got silver, and bronze went to Bershawn Jackson. The last time the U.S. swept this event was 1960.
Women’s uneven bars final: First up was He Kexin. She had a couple of obvious problems. Up next was the only American in the mix, Nastia Liukin. She had a couple of small problems, too, but not as noticeable as He Kexin’s. She got the same exact score as He Kexin, but the scoring software ranked her second!!! There’s a new assinine IOC (International Olympic Committee) rule that you can’t have a tie. But He Kexin had more visible errors. And they had the same start value. He Kexin got the gold, Nastia Liukin got the silver, and some other Chinese gymnast got the bronze. And it’s all the Australian judge’s fault!!! The new scoring system sucks. And in the individual events, all the judges are from countries who don’t have anyone entered and THEY. DON’T. HAVE. ANY. EXPERIENCE. JUDGING!!! Okay, I can see having a tie-breaking procedure. Maybe. But the one they have in place IS JUST PLAIN STUPID!!! Ahem. Not that I have any strong feelings about it or anything.
Men’s vault: Gold went to Leszek Blanik of Poland, silver to Thomas Bouhail of France, and bronze to Marian Dragonescu of Romania. The tie-breaker thingy had to be employed in this event, too!
Tonight, more Olympics and a new episode of Eureka. I’ll have plenty of things to watch when the Olympics are over. Not to mention the new TV season starting up! But that’s a post for another time.
Did some work on the writing last night but not as much as I would have liked. Oh well.
Reading: I had a hard time finding anything I wanted to read last night. I started and put down three books before I found one to read. An old Kasey Michaels Regency, The Haunted Miss Hampshire. It’s fun.
All I want to know is why couldn’t they promote Catherine to Grissom’s position?
I heard that the American pole vaulter was doing some trash talking to the Russian.
Thanks for the Olympics recap.

Jennifer Lopez needs to splash of cold reality!

I am not now, nor have I ever been a Jennifer Lopez fan.
Did you read the articles about Fishburne and the character he’ll be portraying? Sounds interesting. Maybe interesting enough to make me watch the show next season, we’ll see.
Can’t wait to watch Eureka tonight!
Have a good day and enjoy your reading!

Oh man, oh man EUREKA!!
And, yeah, I’m totally with you on the gymnastics.

JLo really said that??? Talk about a mind boggle.
As Marianne posted, we’re of the same mind when it comes to Olympic Gymnastics. I have to admit, I’m not one for swearing but that whole no ties allowed thing was such a WTF scenario I still can’t believe it.

I’ve never cared for JLo and this just reinforces it. What an airhead!

I certainly ope that J Lo was kidding, but fear not. What a dunderhead!
I really need to start watching the Olympics again, we watched every night we were away and in motels, but have lapsed.

J Lo is her own biggest fan.
And as far as gymnastics judging…don’t get me started. I honestly think the USA was ripped several times. And as far as slowing down the routine and dissecting it inch by inch on those damn monitors–I would be more than glad to tell them what to do with said monitors. And it isn’t for viewing.
