Nasty weather in Beijing yesterday interfered with with a lot of the outdoor events. And we had lots of prelims and semifinals. Boring.

We had some of the gymnastics gala last night which was a lot of fun (just not enough of it). The top male Chinese gymnast whose name i can never remember was so serious throughout the competition but last night he got to cut loose and be silly. He hopped up on the pommel horse and acted like he was riding a real horse. *g* Then he got down and was petting it and leaning his head down towards it and it apparently escaped the NBC announcers, but my first thought was “The pommel horse whisperer!” LOL!

And now for the rest of the story…

Men’s 200m: Usain Bolt of Jamaica won the gold. But thanks to TWO disqualifications, U.S. runners Shawn Crawford and Walter Dix got silver and bronze respectively. U.S. runner Wallace Spearmon had initially won the bronze, but he was DQed for running outside his lane which apparently is a big no-no. Well, after losing an appeal they at least managed to get the original silver medalist DQed too because he did the same thing as Spearmon!

Women’s 400m hurdles: Melaine Walker of Jamaica won gold, Sheena Tosta of the U.S. got silver, and Tasha Danvers of Great Britain got bronze.

Women’s beach volleyball: :whoo: Kerri Walsh & Misty May-Treanor won the gold medal for the second consecutive time!!! A first! And it was their 108th consecutive win! The silver went to China. The bronze went to the other Chinese team. And Kerri had on her black kinesio tape. If that stuff’s as good as everyone seems to think, I’m thinking I need to get some of that for myself. *g*

And what is up with water polo? It’s on every stinkin’ day!

I just now happened across the aftermath of the women’s soccer (excuse me, football) match. The U.S. won the gold medal!

Tonight we have yet more Olympics plus a new episode of Burn Notice.

Did more character work on the book last night. Yes, I know it seems like all I do is work on the characters and so far that’s been true. But I’m hoping by having all this in place ahead of time will make the actual writing easier. At least I keep telling myself that. Don’t disillusion me if that isn’t the case, ‘kay? ;)

Reading: Still reading Unlucky by Jana DeLeon. Such a fun book! Got a book order in today’s mail, so I’ll have some fun new things to choose from tonight when I finish Unlucky. Yay!!!

  1. The women’s beach volleyball final was awesome. I was about ready to go to bed, but I couldn’t bring myself to get off the couch until I’d safely seen them win the Gold.

I will miss the Olympics. I won’t miss the NBC commentators.

  4. :crazedjumping: Yay for women’s soccer! The girl, Carli, that scored the winning goal grew up in Delran, New Jersey - a town over from my own hometown! Amazing news to make up for softball.. Bummer..
