Yesterday afternoon on the local radio news they were doing a rundown on various criminal activities in one town (which is always in the news for criminal activities LOL!) and had one snippet about somebody who broke into a house and stole a flat panel TV… and a pair of reading glasses!
Needless to say, it was the addition of the glasses that cracked me up.
In the “Say it ain’t so!” category, I read yesterday that when Stargate: Atlantis ends its season in January that will be the end of the series except for movies. *sigh*
And now the Olympics report…
Women’s 200m final: Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica won the gold, Allyson Felix of the U.S. got silver and the bronze went to Kerron Stewart of Jamaica.
Man, we sucked at both men’s & women’s 4x100m relays prelims. Both teams dropped the baton and were disqualified. They weren’t alone, at least. I think in total there were five or six teams DQed for dropping the baton.
But geez. Could Bob Neumeyer have been any more obnoxious last night during his interview with Tyson Gay? If I’d been Tyson I’d have been sorely tempted to smack him upside the head.
He almost sounded like he blamed Tyson for getting injured during the trials and thus not being 100% now. He probably didn’t mean it that way, but that’s sure how it came across! Besides which, it wasn’t Tyson’s fault the U.S. men’s relay team dropped the baton. The guy passing it to Tyson let go before Tyson had hold of it.
Women’s 10m platform diving: The NBC announcer chick is, yes, still annoying.
It was Laura Wilkinson’s swan song and it did not go the way any of us had hoped. China got gold and bronze and Emilie Heymans of Canada got the silver.
Men’s 400m final: It was a U.S. sweep!!!
LaShawn Merritt won the gold, Jeremy Wariner got the silver and David Neville got the bronze.
Bob tried to ask Jeremy a, no doubt, stupid question about his coaching changes (which he’s had lots of questions about before the Olympics) and Jeremy said “I’m not discussing that” and when Bob ignored him and tried to ask anyway, Jeremy stalked off. Good for him! It’s about time somebody did that. *g* Why do reporters and announcers have to ask such asinine questions??? Or ignore what people are telling them???
Men’s 110m hurdles final: Dayron Robles of Cuba won the gold, David Payne of the U.S. got the silver and David Oliver of the U.S. got the bronze.
Women’s BMX racing final: I’m sorry, but this just does not seem like an Olympic sport to me. And I no longer think trampoline is the most dangerous.
Holy cow! Racers crashing right and left! The gold & silver went to France and the U.S. got the bronze.
Men’s BMX racing final: Gold for Latvia, silver & bronze for the U.S.
Men’s beach volleyball: Yes!!! Todd Rogers & Phil Dalhausser of the U.S. won the gold medal!!! The Brazilian team got the silver. Another Brazilian team won the bronze.
And Bob Costas had an update on the big women’s gymnastics kerfluffle over the Chinese girls’ ages. Apparently some documents have come to light proving the Chinese falsified their gymnasts’ passports. So they could well be stripped of their team medal and the individual uneven bars medals. It’ll be interesting to see how that all comes out in the wash…
Tonight, it’s more Olympics, and new episodes of Psych and Stargate: Atlantis.
Did more work on the contemporary fantasy last night. Yay, me! *g*
And since you guys almost always ask *g* here are the books I got yesterday:

Weddings Can Be Murder by Christie Craig
-
The Penguin Who Knew Too Much by Donna Andrews
-
Spying in High Heels by Gemma Halliday

Calamity Jayne by Kathleen Bacus
-
Her Warrior King by Michelle Willingham

Reading: As soon as I finished what I had been reading, I dove into my new books, starting with the delightfully funny mystery The Penguin Who Knew Too Much by Donna Andrews. This is part of the Meg Langslow series which I adore!!!

Thanks for the Olympic updates!
And hope you enjoy the book.

Sounds like a lot of good books! Weddings Can Be Murder was a good read. I stopped reading the Meg Langslow books a while back and now can’t remember why! I was starting to wonder if the Olympic committee was going to let the whole age thing slide. Good to know it won’t.
I hope you enjoy your books and have a pleasant evening!
