On this date in 1946, a travel show called Geographically Speaking became the first television show to have a commercial sponsor. In this case, Bristol-Myers.

Also on this date, Marilyn Monroe and baseball player Joe DiMaggio were divorced after supposedly fighting over the famous scene in The Seven Year Itch where her skirt gets blown up by a blast of air.

It’s a boring day, thus far, here in Hooterville. Not that I’m complaining. That’s better than the possible alternatives. We could have a fire. You never know with aliens. ;)

The mystery world has lost one of its acclaimed authors. Tony Hillerman passed away yesterday. He was 83. He is best known for his mystery series set on a Navajo reservation.

Tonight on TV, we have Chuck, Heroes, My Own Worst Enemy, Dancing with the Stars, and CSI: Miami. I haven’t watched last week’s episode of the latter and you know what? I don’t miss it. I may be able to drop it from my viewing list…

Reading: I started The Last Hero by Leslie Charteris last night, but my book order arrived today, so I think I’ll set it aside and read something new-to-me instead. However, that said, The Last Hero is probably the best of all the Saint books. But it’s one I like the least. Why do I keep it, you ask? Because I want the complete set of Saint books, of course. And it’s still excellent even if it isn’t my favorite.
