I don’t know why this came to me, but remember the old days before the Internet when people shopped from home via catalogs? Not little piddly catalogs like you get now in the mail, but big honking catalogs from Sears, Montgomery Wards, J. C. Penney’s and Spiegel. I remember when I was a kid, I was so impressed at what you could get from Spiegel. Dogs! They sold actual, living, breathing dogs in their catalog! You just picked a breed and ordered it! Couldn’t get away with that these days, I’m sure. :)

Typical winter weather here today. Not nasty, just cold and overcast. I don’t like it but I can live with it. As long as I don’t have to go out in it.

The season premiere of 24 continues tonight. I hope more of the old gang from CTU show up soon. I miss Chloe and Bill and Chloe’s ex whose name escapes me at the moment. We also have Cities of the Underworld tonight. I’ll have to record that, though. And CSI: Miami.

Reading: Finished up Foul Play which I adored. My only complaint was not enough Jake Porter. *g* Now I’m reading Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones. This isn’t a sequel exactly, but it’s set in the same world as Howl’s Moving Castle. A young carpet-seller named Abdullah sets out to rescue the sultan’s daughter who’s been kidnapped by an evil djinn. Along the way he meets lots of characters he’d daydreamed about all his life and thought he’d made up.

  1. Just wanted to let you know your blog seems a bit different today in that I had to search your past posts for this post and the post that first showed on the page is about your horoscope and and the comments on it are closed?

Glad you liked Foul Play. I’m not spoiling Working Stiff by Tori Carrington for you, but you may want to see if your library has it, if you like Jake Porter! *G*
They made that book by DWJ into a movie as well. *G*

    I hope you’re having a good day!

  2. I agree with Brandy, seek out Working Stiff.

I remember those catalogs..they were big and weighed a ton and have every thing you could think of. I believe my first catalog purchase and in fact credit card was from Spiegel.

  3. I had a huge Spiegel catalog too. And I remember my mom ordering from the Sears catalog. I do remember ordering stuff from Victoria Secret via phone. I find it hard to believe.

I believe “11th Hour” comes back this week.

  4. I used to love those catalogs. I remember pouring over the huge Sears Wish Book when I wrote my letter to Santa. And Spiegels was very cool. One of my aunts used to work there, too.
