Four years ago today I first began blogging. Sometimes it seems much less than that. Other times much longer. In that time I’ve made a lot of new friends. So here’s to you! *smooch* You guys mean a lot to me.
We had another storm blow through last night. Lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. We got more rain in that time than we had in the entire day before when it rained all day! All the ditches on our street were overflowing and crossing the street. If it hadn’t been pouring down I’d have gone out and taken pictures. Okay, that’s a lie. I didn’t even think about taking pictures. Must train myself to do that!
I am so sleepy! I can barely keep my eyes open. I see a nap in my future…
Not a lot on tonight. New episodes of Bones, CSI, and Warriors. And that’s it.
Wrote 3/4 of a page last night and also did some research.
Reading: I dove back into my book collection and decided to re-read The Gate of Ivory by Doris Egan. This is the first book in a trilogy. Theodora of Pyrene finds herself stranded on the planet Ivory, the only planet in the galaxy where magic works, for two years after being robbed. She ekes out a living as a (fake) fortune teller, all the while trying to save enough money to buy a ticket home. Then one day Ran Cormallon, a rich and powerful Ivory sorcerer, hires her to read his very special deck of Tarot cards. After she takes the job, she finds out what happened to his previous reader. And finds herself trying to stay alive long enough to get off the planet. Oh, and she also tries to fight falling in love with Ran.
These days Doris is a writer and co-executive producer on the Fox series House.
First on last night’s DWTS’s results show, we got a fab encore of Team Tango’s performance. They rocked it again. Loved the “commercial” for Dance Match with Chuck & Julianne. *g* Then we had a “commercial” for PETD (People for the Ethical Treatment of Dancers). And then we had the boot-off. As one headline I read said, Chuck Got Chucked. *sigh* I was really hoping we’d finally be rid of boring Melissa. And, my, wasn’t she weepy at the end? What was up with that?
It’s Tuesday and that means another DWTS report! We had different dances for different teams plus the team dances. Team Mambo vs Team Tango. But what I’d like to know is what the heck was Carrie Ann wearing?! Was that monstrosity around her neck a necklace or part of her gown? Whatever, it was UGLY.
Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas (Samba) – Parts of it were great, but other parts, to me, seemed like she lost her place. I’m not sure. The judges were all split. *g* They scored 27/30.
Lil’ Kim & Derek Hough (Paso doble) – They rocked it!!! And the judges agreed. They scored 28/30.
Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke (Lindy hop) – He’s injured his shoulder, though the doc said he could still compete. I thought they did a totally fab job!!! Even the judges loved it! They scored 27/30.
Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower (Salsa) – Well, crap. I set my recorder wrong and missed his dance. (I also screwed up recording Doing Da Vinci.) *sigh* The judges were apparently mixed. They scored 24/30.
Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani (Jive) – We were blessedly without Melissa’s presence last night. She injured her ribs, but she’s not out yet. *sigh* She was scored on her rehearsal. You could tell she was in a lot of pain. They scored 21/30.
Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough (Cha cha cha) – I liked it a lot! Maybe not quite as much as last week’s, but still great! And the judges agreed with me again! I think this must be a record. *g* They scored 26/30.
Finally, we had the team dances.
First up, we had Team Mambo (Chuck, Melissa & Shawn and their respective partners). But since Melissa had to sit it out, Lacey Schwimmer filled in for her (with a mere 15 minutes notice!). Near the end of their dance, the girls’ skirts came off (intentionally!) and they were left wearing fancy leotards. THEN the guys hopped up on the judges’ table and tore off their shirts & pants and they had leotards/tights on! Len thought they did a great job, Bruno was too busy talking about the guys in the tights *g* and Carrie Ann found the tights/leotards thing “too distracting”. The team score was 25/30.
Then we had Team Tango. Gilles & Ty started out shirtless! The tango is supposed to be really intense and I thought Li’l Kim was smiling too much. And she made a little blunder that the judges saw but I missed. Ty & Chelsie’s solo (if you can call two people “solo”) rocked. But Gilles was The Man! Not only was his dancing smokin’, he had that whole intense Rudolph Valentino vibe going. *swoon* The team gave Bruno goosebumps. Carrie Ann loved it. Len said Gilles’ footwork was “atrocious”. What drugs was he on??? But he loved Ty’s portion. So I’ll forgive him. *g* They scored 28/30.
I swear these posts are getting longer instead of shorter!
If April showers bring May flowers, we ought to have a LOT of flowers at our house next month. Thunderstorms moved in yesterday and it’s been raining ever since. We’re now under a flash flood warning. Quack, quack!
That last show gives me lots of story ideas. Not so much life after people, so much as life after a large portion of the world’s population kicks the bucket from some mysterious something. *g*
Wrote half a page last night before I unplugged all the computer equipment because of the storms.
Reading: Now I’m reading Dragonsdawn by Anne McCaffrey. This is the first book of the Pern series. First in the story timeline, anyway. It wasn’t apparently the first book she wrote in the series. It’s about how colonists from Earth (and other planets) arrive and settle on Pern. And find dragons.
