Here we go again. Legendary newsman Walter Cronkite, “the most trusted man in America”, passed away yesterday. He was 92. To be honest, I’m not sure what to say about him. I think he was the last of his kind. A newsman who actually reported news. Not the tabloid reporters we have nowadays. I wish we had more like Mr. Cronkite. The man was a legend in his own time and a major American icon. I’m very sad at his passing, though it’s not surprising given his age.

On this date in 1939, producers of The Wizard of Oz debated taking out one of the songs from the film because they thought it slowed the story down. They finally decided to leave it in. The song? Only the iconic Over the Rainbow. *g*

Only thing on tonight is a new episode of Primeval which must be nearing its season finale soon, I should think.

Wrote a few more sentences last night.

Reading: Still reading The Language of Bees. It’s long. I’m enjoying it, but I’m thinking it’s not my favorite of the series.

  1. Walter Cronkite passing is definitely the end of an era. He reported so much history and presented everything in that calm, clear voice. I wonder if we’ll ever see his like again.

  2. At least with Walter Cronkite he lived a long and eventful life. And you’re right, he was one of those iconic newsmen.
That’s an interesting tidbit about The Wizard of Oz, good thing they left the song in!
I miss the old BBC, to be honest. This new BBC America is getting on my nerves. I haven’t seen one episode of the old shows that made BBC fun.

Enjoy your book! And have a fantastic Saturday!

  3. It’s funny that since he left CBS as an anchorman, I haven’t watch a news program. He was the best and most professional of his trade and we’ll never see that dedication again.

  4. Man, I hadn’t heard that about Walter Cronkite! You’re right, he was a news icon. The last of the true newsmen.
