“I mean, would you serve the guests the nuts?” One of the classic lines spoken by Nora Charles in from The Thin Man. Why am I quoting Nora Charles? Because on this date in 1905, the actress who so ably portrayed Nora, Myrna Loy, was born. If you’ve never seen the movie, you should rent it. It’s a classic for the lightning-quick, snappy dialogue if nothing else.

Not a lot going on here. I have a feeling I should enjoy it while it lasts. I fear we may be getting some less-than-desirable neighbors shortly. *sigh*

Tonight on TV, we actually have new stuff that looks interesting. On regular network TV, no less! First up is Ty’s Great British Adventure in which Ty Pennington goes to England to help a village revitalize a park. Then we have the new series Defying Gravity about a space mission to Venus and other planets. It’s being described as Grey’s Anatomy meets Lost in Space. But it also has a mystery in it. I’m hoping it’ll be good. But if it is, ABC will probably kill it.

Reading: Last night I read Hex Marks the Spot by Madelyn Alt. Yes, the entire thing. It was very good. :) Now I have to wait until November for the next book in the series. *dramatic sigh*

  1. Myrna Loy was a trip, they pretty much always gave her characters quips. (If I’m remembering correctly, anyway.) I’ve heard that the British weren’t too happy with Ty because of that special. They didn’t “take” to his style of working. *G* Especially the mega-phone.
What do you think of a couple of the new specials the History channel will be having on soon?
I hope you have a great day!

  2. I love THE THIN MAN. Every movie in the series! I do believe Nick and Nora Charles were one of the wittest, sexiest couples ever. And no one could’ve played Nora better than Myrna Loy.

Off to check out your link to DEFYING GRAVITY. Sounds interesting!

  3. I love when Myrna played comedy roles – not too fond of her dramatic roles though.
