I was thrilled to learn they’ll be doing the Charleston this season on DWTS!!! But that’s for a future night. Last night we were without Len Goodman. Sitting in for him was director Baz Luhrmann.
This is long, so keep reading…
Aaron Carter & Karina Smirnoff (Quickstep) – What an awesome quickstep! I loved it!!! And they danced to the theme song from The Muppet Show!!!
The judges loved it, too. (But Karina looked like she was wearing the bottom half of that weird swan dress Bjork wore to the Academy Awards several years ago.) They scored 27/30. In week TWO!!!
Chuck Liddell & Anna Trebunskaya (Tango) – I liked it! Not that I’d tell him if I didn’t.
(He’s the mixed martial arts champion.) The tango worked well with his intense “mean” look. The judges were mostly positive. But maybe they were scared. LOL! They scored 19/30.
Debi Mazar & Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Tango) – I liked it and I didn’t. Strange version of the Police‘s Roxanne. The judges liked it, though. They scored 21/30.
Donny Osmond & Kym Johnson (Jive) – It was fun to watch even if his technique wasn’t quite up to par. And I loved the music (Secret Agent Man). The judges thought it was better than I did.
They scored 25/30. I guess the judges REALLY liked it more than I did. LOL!
Joanna Krupa & Derek Hough (Jive) – Parts of it were pretty good. Other parts seemed a tad too frenetic to me. Or as Carrie Ann put it, her feet were a little spastic.
They scored 20/30. (She’s a Playboy centerfold and swimsuit model. *yawn* Why does this make her a celebrity?)
Kathy Ireland & Tony Dovolani (Quickstep) – I love her to pieces but I think she’s still being way too careful. They scored 18/30.
Kelly Osbourne & Louis van Amstel (Tango) – I thought it was great! The judges said there were mistakes but I didn’t see them. They scored 19/30.
Louie Vito & Chelsie Hightower (Jive) – I liked it a lot! He’s just so darn CUTE!!! But Bruno was being Mr. Crankypants. He must have borrowed the Crankypants from Len. *g* They scored 19/30.
Mark Dacascos & Lacey Schwimmer (Quickstep) – I thought it was pretty darn good. The judges risked the audience’s wrath by being critical. LOL! They scored 21/30.
Melissa Joan Hart & Mark Ballas (Jive) – Overall, I thought it was really good. But it could have been crisper. Maybe she needed to use her Sabrina the Teenage Witch powers.
They scored 19/30.
Michael Irvin & Anna Demidova (Quickstep) – Well. Hmm. I’ve seen worse. But I’ve also seen much better. I thought it was too slow but the judges seemed to disagree with me. They scored 20/30. The audience thought they should have scored higher. But I thought it should be lower. LOL!
Mya & Dmitri Chaplin (Jive) – They rocked it!!! I loved it!!! And Dmitri’s nerdy outfit cracked me up! The judges loved it, too. They scored 27/30.
Natalie Coughlin & Alec Mazo (Quickstep) – I thought it was pretty good but I had a hard time getting past the music. I’m sorry but the quickstep and disco don’t really go together. The judges were pretty much (“pretty” is the word of the day *g*) positive, overall. They scored 21/30. (She’s an Olympic gold—many golds—medalist in swimming.)
Tom DeLay & Cheryl Burke (Tango) – He actually did a pretty good job until right at the end when he almost fell. He was dancing with a “pre-stress fracture” in his foot which may have had something to do with it. They scored 18/30.
Tonight is the DWTS results show, plus NCIS (for the hunk factor), NCIS: Los Angeles (more hunks), The Forgotten (which I like but part of me also thinks it may be too depressing on a weekly basis), and Surviving Disaster (where we’ll learn how to survive an avalanche—not that I’ll ever be in one, mind you, but I could torture characters with one).
No writing last night. The DWTS report took up all my time.
Reading: Finally finished up Twanged and now I’m reading Ghost of a Chance by Flo Fitzpatrick. She’s a new-to-me author. This is a cute romance about actress/choreographer Kiely Davlin who helps a friend in Dallas put on an old-time melodrama at a newly restored theater. Complicating matters are the ghost who’s flirting with Kiely (he was murdered on stage during the same play Kiely & Co. are putting on) and the actor who’s playing the same role the ghost played fifty years before.

I liked when Debi Mazr told her partner to not treat her like a kid. Aaron was a bit rude. Natalie’s partner told her to breathe. I love those rehearsal snippets.
I liked Mya and Aaron’s routine. I wonder who will be the featured spotlight on tonight’s show.
Yeah, the hunk factors are on!

Strangely enough, it turns out that this is not the first time that the Muppet theme has been danced with the stars. When I Googled for video, I found a YouTube clip from the 2007 season of the Israeli version of DWTS. No guest Muppets, but they did a fuller cover of the song, with some of the inserted dialogue.
Here’s the link….

Okay, let’s try this again.
It turns out that this is not the first instance of Muppet music on DWTS — sort of, anyway. When I Googled for video, I found a quickstep from the 2007 season of the Israeli version of the show, also done to the Muppet Show theme. That one uses a longer cover of the song, with some of the inserted dialogue.

I missed most of last night episode, darnit! I can’t wait to see tonight’s. I wonder if Len was absent because of his cancer diagnosis last year. I remember reading that Flo Fitzpatrick book. And one other……
I hope you have a good evening with all your hunks. *G*
