And I’m having to give up two hours (more or less) of Olympics this afternoon because I have a dental appointment. Frankly, I’d much rather watch cross country skiing than get my teeth cleaned. But they do have TVs in the rooms, so maybe I can convince them to put the Games on for me… Okay, I’m not really giving it up. I’ve got the DVR set to record so I can watch when I get home.

My DVR is going to get a MASSIVE workout tonight. Since I’ll be watching the Olympics, I’ll have to record:

  • Leverage (Why is this the season finale? Didn’t this season just start a few days ago?)

I managed to force myself to work on the book last night. Some. *g*

Reading: Finished up The Edge and now I’m reading Prime Time by Hank Phillippi Ryan. She’s a new-to-me author. I’m really enjoying the book, so far.

Okay, on to the Olympics report. Spoilers ahead!

First up, women’s snowboard cross. U.S.’s Lindsay Jacobellis was hoping to redeem herself this year after her showboating in 2006 cost her a gold medal. But she accidentally skidded off-course in the semi-finals yesterday and was disqualified. But congrats to Canada’s Maelle Ricker for nabbing her country’s second gold medal! On the plus side, our men’s & women’s hockey teams are dominating, so far. Keep up the good work!

Then there was the men’s short program in figure skating. The big news was the return to competition of Yevgeni Plushenko (whose name is spelled differently every time I see it…) from Russia. A tip, hon? Lose the mullet. Really. He was the first to skate last night and his jumps were spectacular. But he still didn’t seem as crisp and polished as some of the other skaters in other aspects. He got an amazing 90.85 score. In the last Olympics he had such a lead over the other competitors he couldn’t be caught. This is not the case this time around. In a close second and third are Evan Lysacek from the U.S. and Daisuke Takahashi from Japan. Personally, aside from Plushenko’s quad jump, I thought Evan and Daisuke both did a better job. When Daisuke (who skated first of the latter two) got his scores, they flashed up to Plushenko in the audience and he looked pissed that Daisuke got a score of 90.25. They didn’t show his reaction to Evan’s even better score (90.30). *g* So tomorrow night’s free skate (aka the medal round) should prove to be very interesting. And as a side note, Johnny Weir (who is currently in 6th place) has supposedly been receiving death threats from animal rights activists (who apparently don’t see the irony in that) because he has fox fur on one of his costumes.

In the biathlon events yesterday, three women were sent out late and two men were sent out early because the officials in charge of timing screwed up. Oops!

  2. Good luck at the dentist.

We were at lunch and the TV was on and the people where, I don’t know what you call it, but pushing this big thing across the floor. Looked rather boring to me and I couldn’t figure out why it was an Olympic sport.

  3. Hey! How was your dental appointment? Since I work at a dental office, I always like to hear about peoples experiences.
