I’ve pretty much got nothing today. The weather is finally cooling down, though I’m still managing to wear shorts during the day.
Today in history:
1912 – Singer/actress Dale Evans was born. She was married to Roy Rogers. As a point of trivia, Roy’s horse was, of course, Trigger. And Dale’s was Buttermilk.
1913 – The Lincoln Highway, the first automobile road across United States, was dedicated.
1926 – Magician/illusionist/escape artist Harry Houdini died of peritonitis in a Detroit hospital following a blow to the abdomen that ruptured his appendix.
1941 – Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota was completed.
1938 – Orson Welles set off a national panic with a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion, based on H.G. Wells‘War of the Worlds. (Yes, it was a more innocent time and we, as a people, were more gullible.)
Tonight, it’s recorded shows for me!
Worked some more on the book last night.
Reading: Still reading Pinned for Murder. Should finish that up tonight. then…. who knows?
We’ve lost the original Danno from Hawaii Five-O. James MacArthur passed away yesterday at age 72. He was the adopted son of Charles MacArthur and legendary actress Helen Hayes. I had a crush on him when I was a kid.
Today in history:
1891 – Singer/comedienne Fanny Brice was born. She was portrayed by Barbra Streisand in the movies of her life Funny Girl and Funny Lady. (The former movie was the first movie I saw in a real theater. We sat in the balcony. )
1923 – The musical Runnin’ Wild, which introduced the Charleston, opened on Broadway.
1929 – The stock market crashed causing the Great Depression.
Worked some more on the book last night. I’ve got one situation where I need some expert opinions so I’ll be picking the brains of some of my Twitter friends who should hopefully know what I need to know.
