Most people have heard about Ayers Rock in Australia. About 30 miles from Ayers Rock lies Kata Tjula, aka The Olgas. The Olgas comprise 36 domes of red rock. The pictures are stunning!

Today in history:

  • 1892 – Entertainer Eddie Cantor was born. He was a comedian, dancer, singer, actor, and songwriter. He started out in vaudeville, then moved to Broadway, eventually he got a radio show, then moved into movies and television.
  • 1930 – 3M began marketing Scotch Tape. Guess I’d better make sure I never use Scotch Tape in my 1920s mystery book….

The only thing on TV tonight that I like is Chuck. I decided to drop The Cape. It was kind of fun but I wasn’t fanatical about it. And Castle is yet another rerun.

No writing stuff last night, but I keyed in four pages Saturday night.

Reading: Finished up Last of the Demon Slayers by Angie Fox. Now I’m reading Demon Ex Machina by Julie Kenner.

The statue of Christ the Redeemer stands atop Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It’s 130 ft tall and the arms stretch out at least 75 ft. I’m not sure about that latter figure. I’ve heard that and also that it’s 98 ft wide.

Not a lot going on here personally. Spent a lot of time yesterday watching the unfolding events in Egypt which isn’t really a topic for this blog. Scary stuff, though.

We have U.S. figure skating championships tonight which I may or may not watch. I kind of want to watch the second episode on my Dalziel and Pasco DVD. I also need to reorganize my Netflix list. It’s kind of a mess since I went crazy when I first got it. :headspin:

Read through more of the story I’m playing with now.

Reading: Finished up How to Crash a Killer Bash and now I’m reading The Last of the Demon Slayers by Angie Fox. Love this series!

Freycinet National Park lies on the east coast of Tasmania. It’s the home of The Tasmanian Devil. Okay, that’s a lie. I’m pretty sure he lives in Hollywood these days.

Anyway, some of the best-known sites at Freycinet are Wineglass Bay which is supposed to be one of the 10 best beaches in the world and jagged granite peaks called The Hazards.

Today in history:

  • 1892 – German-born film director Ernst Lubitsch was born. His career took off in 1918 in Germany. In 1922, he moved to Hollywood where he worked up until his dead in 1947.
  • 1896 – Walter Arnold of East Peckham, Kent (in England) became the first person to be convicted of speeding. He was fined 1 shilling, plus costs, for speeding. How fast was he going, you ask? A whopping 8mph. The speed limit was 2mph. Can you just imagine? LOL!
  • 1909 – United States troops left Cuba with the exception of Guantanamo Bay Naval Base after being there since the Spanish-American War.
  • 1910 – Austrian-born actor John Banner was born. He’s best known as Sgt. Schultz in the 1960s TV sitcom Hogan’s Heroes. “I know nothing!”
  • 1915 – An act of the U.S. Congress created the United States Coast Guard.
  • 1917 – Municipally owned streetcars began running in San Francisco, California.
  • 1934 – The first ski tow in the United States began operating in Vermont.
  • 1938 – The World Land Speed Record on a public road was broken by Rudolf Caracciola in a Mercedes-Benz W195. He drove at 268.9 mph. I’m not sure I’d want to go anywhere near that fast on the roads back then!
  • 1958 – The Lego company patented its Lego bricks which are still compatible with bricks produced today.

The only thing on tonight is a new episode of Fringe which I will be recording. Because I will be watching my latest Netflix gem. A new-to-me British mystery series called Dalziel and Pascoe.

I didn’t do any actual keying in of handwritten stuff last night. I
was going through this one legal pad and started to toss out some
stuff I’d put a big X over which is my cue to myself that I’ve already
keyed it in. Only I suddenly realized it was stuff I’d keyed in and
lost in the Great Hard Drive Crash. So now I’m reading through what I
already have on that particular story before I key this stuff in
again.

Reading: Now I’m reading How to Crash a Killer Bash by Penny Warner.
