So I was listening to the Celtic music program from the university radio station this morning and they played a lot of songs about summer ending. Now, personally, I don’t think summer IS going to end. I think it’s here to stay. But the songs were kind of sad. I don’t need sad songs. I need happy songs! Fun songs! So why is every satellite music station playing depressing music???? Is it a conspiracy??? C’mon, people, I need something to pull myself out of the funk I’m in!!! *sigh*

Today in history:

  • 1893 – Legendary writer Dorothy Parker was born. My favorite quote of hers: “If all the girls who attended the Yale prom were laid end to end, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised.”
  • 1901 – Cadillac Motor Company was founded.
  • 1902 – Theodore Roosevelt became the first President of the United States to ride in an automobile. I wonder if it was a Cadillac? :D

Not much else going on around here. Oh wait! I forgot to tell you the latest on the Dollar General. They have the blacktop down for the parking lot and all the stripes are painted too.

The only thing on tonight is Leverage. Wonder who Eliot will beat up tonight? :slap:

Reading: Now I’m reading a good mystery from 1904 called The Albert Gate Mystery by Louis Tracy.

Well, I don’t actually drink at all. :drunk: Never have.

Today in history:

  • 1924 – Sports announcer Jack Buck was born. He was the legendary voice of the St. Louis Cardinals all the years I was growing up. :)
  • 1928 – WRNY began regularly scheduled television broadcasts in New York City. Yes, in 1928!!!
  • 1935 – Benny Goodman‘s nationally broadcast concert at Los Angeles’ Palomar Theater was such a hit that it has often been referred to as the kickoff of the swing era.
  • 1959 – Hawaii officially became the nation’s 50th state.

Nothing on tonight so you know what that means!

Reading: Finished up the Penny Nichols book. Not sure what’s next.

Of course, I don’t really have a therapist. But it’s good advice regardless. Not sure about its validity as an excuse, though.

Today in history:

  • 1920 – The first commercial radio station, 8MK (WWJ) in Detroit, Michigan, began broadcasting.
  • 1920 – The National Football League, (NFL), was founded in the United States.
  • 1938 – Lou Gehrig hit his 23rd career grand slam. His record has yet to be broken.

Tonight it’s all about Eureka and Haven.

Reading: Finally finished up The Million-Dollar Suitcase (which is really kind of the lamest title ever) and am now reading another children’s ebook: Penny Nichols Finds a Clue by Joan Clark. Penny is a Nancy Drew-esque girl detective. In fact, Joan Clark was a pseudonym for Mildred Wirt Benson who was one of the primary writers for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. What had me giggling was how much times have changed. Penny is only 15 years old and she’s been driving for THREE YEARS in the book. But as late as the 1930s or 40s, some states just required you to pay a small fee. No age requirements. Not tests.
